Students from universities associated to the network investigate modalities and problems for the development of scientific tourism. This space allows those who wish to present their current research and development project.

Thesis project defended by Jean-Gabriel VALAY, Professor at the University of Grenoble Alpes and Director of the Alpine Station Joseph Fourier and Pascal MAO, Professor and Researcher at the University of Grenoble Alpes and the PACTE laboratory and Director of CERMOSEM. The thesis will be hosted by the UMR Pacte and attached to the SHPT doctoral school.
This thesis project is based on a reverse approach allowing a transfer of knowledge and feedback of experiences from the South to the North and in a context of enhancement and preservation of natural spaces. Thus this thesis work aims to question how scientific tourism contributes to the reinvention of these spaces through changes in representations and the new uses and territorial dynamics that are made of them. To do this, he will question the following hypotheses: – Scientific tourism allows the appropriation of the territory and contributes to its redefinition through the transfer and production of specific environmental knowledge, – scientific tourism offers new territorial dynamics concerned with environmental issues that meet local development needs and expectations, – Through the scientific enhancement (transfer and production) of a territory, scientific tourism makes it possible to live a personal experience that responds to societal changes and aims to give meaning to its tourist and leisure mobility. In order to carry out this research, 3 areas with initiatives or conducive to scientific tourism will be worked on: – The Mont-Blanc massif around dynamic glacial issues and permafrost. – Le Jardin du Lautaret, a place of science and tourism, around the issue of high altitude ecosystems – Underground environments (tourist caves and karst environments) as a marker of past and present climatic and environmental dynamics

The research presented below will review theories related to the contribution of science in tourism. Once the dissipated perception of the status of science in the conformation of the tourist product and its contribution to the experience and behaviour of tourists has been detected, this study aims to quantify the contribution of scientific communication and relate it to the value of the experience of tourists during their visits to the protected areas of the Canary Islands in four different ecosystems, which will be very useful for protected area managers and other decision-makers. In addition, this academic contribution may positively influence the improvement of visitor behaviour, given that the disciplines of science allow for a broad understanding of the impacts that tourists may have on the environment (Higham & Lùck, 2008).
