Since 2017, Caxias do Sul University has sought to support the development of sustainable tourism in protected wild areas. Through scientific tourism activities scientific aims to explore and collect data for the habilitation of spaces for tourism without affecting fragile ecosystems. Activities university activities, scientific congresses and explorations with local and tourism stakeholders seek to coordinate the enhancement of the Serra Gaúcha and support the creation of a UNESCO Geopark in the Campos de Cima da Serra Gaúcha.
